Wham-O at Canton Fair in China

Mr. Todd Richards, President of Wham-O attended the China Import and Export Fair, also known as the “Canton Fair”, earlier this October. We are happy to share Mr. Richards’ notes on the trip.

On Oct 23rd, I attended the 122rd Canton Fair in Guangzhou (Canton) China.  This show is HUGE and features over 25,000 vendors representing manufacturers from all over Asia.  This show is so big that it is held in 3 phases over a two week period.  Along with several members of our Wham-O Hong Kong team, we arrived for Phase II which had 2 full pavilions of booths featuring toys.

We saw many new items and met with several factory representatives regarding potential new Wham-O products.  We also met with a couple of our current factory partners who were also showing at the Fair.  It was very exciting to see so many vendors, but even better to see the aisles so full of buyers.  Everywhere we walked, there booths busy working with customers from all over the world. Steve Chan our Wham-O Merchandiser in our Hong Kong office joined me to explore some other areas of the Fair’s Phase II which included Gifts/Premiums and Outdoor Pool/Patio.  We were both overwhelmed by the extent of products we were able to see outside of the traditional Toy world.  We left both of those pavilions with several new product ideas that will likely be showing up in our Wham-O assortment in the near future.”

China Import and Export Fair, also known as the “Canton Fair”, is established in 1957. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of PRC and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and organized by China Foreign Trade Centre, it is held every spring and autumn in Guangzhou, China. Canton Fair is a comprehensive international trading event with the longest history, the largest scale, the most complete exhibit variety, the largest buyer attendance, the broadest distribution of buyers’ source country and the greatest business turnover in China.
